Today the stock of Cognac House "Sarajishvili" are unique Georgian brandy of different ages and origin included. The oldest of them (from the wine village Digomi) was distilled in 1893 under the direction of David Sarajishvili.
In a country where vine and wine production continues for centuries, the Georgian wine brandy appeared only in the 19th century, and its origin is closely related to the great philanthropist and entrepreneur David Sarajishvili.
Sarajishvili returned to Georgia from Europe in the 1870s. Having studied in Germany and France for 12 years, he received classical education and mastered his knowledge of modern technologies. Along with knowledge of viticulture, alcoholic drinks, cognac production and marketing, combined with outstanding dedication, Sarajishvilihad strong financial resources.In 1884, Sarajishvili established classic cognac production, and in 1887, Tbilisi Cognac Factory released its first products. Sarajishvili’s company was developing fast and expanding geographically. The increased variety of products included cognac, vodka, wine, liquor, rum, Absinthe and other alcoholic beverages. In 1889-1912, Sarajishvili’s cognac was awarded golden medals at international exhibitions in Paris, Chicago, Brussels and other cities. In 1913, high-quality Georgian cognac producer was awarded the status of emperor’s court supplier.
In 1954 the company has finished building the new factory, where all the materials owned by the company in different warehouses were stored.
In 1995, Tbilisi Cognac Factory, which continued Sarajishvili’s legacy duringthe Soviet period, was again privatized, andby the initiative of the new owner the name Sarajishvili was returned to the company.
Currently, Sarajishvili’s alcoholic beverage storages contain unique Georgian spirits of various ages and origins, including the oldest spirit distilled in 1893 (from the Digomi village wine materials) by David Sarajishvili himself.
